OHIO STATE COUNCIL VETERANS PROGRAM

Title:   VETERANS APPRECIATION PROGRAM

 

Purpose:   To strive to give part of ourselves as knights to the veterans in our community in appreciation for what they sacrificed for each of us and our country.

 

Goal:   To bring aid, support, and/or cheer to any of the veterans in our community by performing any of the following program activities.

 

1)   Veterans Admitted to In-Patient Care

 

•     $50.00 Donation for a VA Hospital or veteran’s home through your local diocesan veteran chairman

•     Ward volunteers- Participate with in-patients activities e.g., writing letters, reading to them, etc.

•     Adopt-A-Veteran program Send greeting cards to hospital or housebound veterans

•     Provide patient escort to Mass on Sunday (Wheelchair brigade)

•     Volunteer and/or provide gifts for parties and annual patient carnival

•     Donate Ditty bags for each veteran when entering the hospital containing toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, Kleenex, stationery, stamped envelopes, and a disposable razor

 

11.) Veterans in the Community

 

•     Provide assistance for veteran’s families that face undue hardship (Food baskets, money, personal items, transportation as needed, etc.)

•     Help decorate grave sites in your local cemeteries on Memorial day and Veteran’s day

•     Sponsor a veteran’s social or dinner for brother knights who served in the military

•     Honor deceased veterans at a special Mass

•     Participate in a local veteran’s sponsored parades

•     Conduct and/or support an activity with a local VFW posts, American Legion, AM VETS, etc.

•     Outpatient services Serving in a volunteer capacity at a community-based out-patient clinics/field centers; or assisting with the outreach program
